Hello Rosehill Cougars! My name is Leticia Piña and I am your new 2nd grade teacher! I have been teaching 2nd grade for a few years now, so I already know how exciting the school year is going to be!

For those of you who don’t know me yet, let me share a little background about myself. I was born and raised in a small town north of here called Navasota. After graduating high school, I attended and graduated Sam Houston State University with a degree in Bilingual Elementary Education. Since then I have taught kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. I started at Navasota ISD and then decided to move to a bigger city. I taught at Spring ISD for a few years and then made another change. After getting married, 6 years ago, I moved to Tomball and started working at Rosehill. My husband and I now have two beautiful kids. Emma is four and going to Pre-K this year. Nicholas is two and keeping us all on our toes daily!

As I mentioned earlier, my teaching degree is specified in Bilingual Education, but I actually made a switch a couple of years ago to teach in English. I feel very comfortable in both languages and have enjoyed both experiences. My main focus is to reach kids and help them grow both socially and academically.

Please feel free to come by and get to know me and our classroom environment. I really do appreciate any feedback and as much communication as possible. And of course, thank you for sharing your child with me. I truly feel that this might be the best year yet!

Picture Day

Hello, parents!

First of all, thank you so much to those of you who came out last night for our parent orientation! If you weren't able to make it and have a specific question, please feel free to shoot me an email.

As I mentioned last night, school picture day will be next Wednesday, September 27th. I am sending home purchase order forms with your child today in their blue daily folders. If you choose to purchase a package, please have your child bring it back next week on or before the day of pictures. Thanks and have a great weekend!

Parents, here are some reminders and clarifications for a few things that you might need to know:
- Your child will be getting a math test break down in his/her Wednesday folder tomorrow. Since we are unable to send home the actual test, this page will let you know what specific skill he/she did not master on last week's test. More information on this will be discussed at Parent Orientation.
- We will have our unit test over citizenship tomorrow in Social Studies. Concepts that we have learned include characteristics of a good citizen and how we can demonstrate these characteristics at home, school and in our community.
- Thursday will be our Parent Orientation Night. We will be covering the basics of second grade including procedures, data documentation, responsibilities and expectations. It will be from 6:00 to 7:30 in your child's homeroom.
-Looking ahead, we will have our fall picture day next Wednesday morning! Another reminder will be sent out next week :)
- Lastly, the making of our school yearbook is in full swing! If you have any photos that you would like to share, please see the flyer attached below and help contribute to our annual yearbook.
Thank you for all of your support! Hope to see you Thursday!

Spelling Test

Hi, parents,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I was just informed that we will not be having a spelling test THIS week. Your child may continue to practice the words, but we will not be testing until next Friday, September 15th. Math homework, on the other hand, will still be collected this Friday.

I also want to remind you guys that we will be needing a photograph for our writing assignment on Friday. It can be any photo of an important time in your child's life (losing a tooth, holiday, family vacation, sporting event, etc.). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you and have a great week!

Welcom back- again!

Welcome back for the second time around! I know that we are all happy to get back into our routine so I just want to give you guys some reminders and let you know what's going on in our class.
-If you can, please send a pair of headphones to school. The kids will soon be using their own personal pair for computer games and activities.
- We are also doing a writing activity on Friday in which the kids are being asked to bring in a photograph. This photo can be of ANY activity or event that they can talk and write about. It will be sent home as soon as we complete the activity.
- We will begin with our weekly spelling tests this Friday. Your child should have a pre-test in his/her backpack to use as a study guide. If you need to access the spelling list, please remember they are listed on my webpage.
- We will also begin weekly math homework pages today. Typically, this page will be sent home on Monday and will be due on Friday.
- If you are still interested in ordering books from the Scholastic book order form, please do so by Friday. If you need a new copy, please let me know!
I apologize for the LONG message! Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a wonderful week!

Good afternoon parents!
I sincerely hope that this message finds you in perfect health and safety. These last few days have been a giant, scary blur! Thankfully, the weather seems to have calmed down, but the aftermath remains.
As for myself, my family and I are doing very well. We were blessed with safety throughout the entire storm. My husband, who is an HFD firefighter, has been on shift most of these days so it was definitely scary being on our own, not to mention our concern for him. Thankfully it has passed and we are counting our blessings.
If you are able to, please contact me to let me know if you are safe and/or if you need any assistance. In our short time together, I tried to let the kids know that we are a family and that I already care so much for them. I am available to help, if needed. The school might also have additional resources to assist our Rosehill families. Please, please do not hesitate in contacting me. My wish is that your families are safe and happy and that we will soon return to normalcy. Until then, my thoughts and prayers are will our entire city and community.

Thank You

My final edlio for the year is simply to say thank you to each and every one of you. This year has been challenging, but so wonderful. I have loved getting to know each of your children and more importantly, watching them grow. I gave as many hugs as possible today and told them I was proud of them. I truly hope they know how special they are to me.
Have a wonderful and safe summer and please feel free to stop by to visit sometime!

Field Day, Career Day & Animal Projects

Our field day is quickly approaching, and we still need volunteers. If you are available and would like to help out, let us know. Also, if you have not done so yet, please return the field day form that indicates whether your child will need a sack lunch for that day (May 12th).

We also have career day in a few weeks. If you are available and would like to speak to the second graders about your career on the afternoon of May 19th, please send me an email or return the yellow information page sent home last week in Wednesday folders.

Your child brought home an animal habitat project yesterday (blue page). This assignment will be due on Friday, May 12th. Each student needs to make a diorama using the animal researched in class. Please feel free to call or email if you have any questions about the assignment. Because of this, there will be no math homework this week.

Next Monday and Tuesday 3rd and 4th grade will be having STAAR testing. Due to the testing, the campus will be closed to visitors.

Lastly, thank you for the supply donations for our landform activity! The kids are super excited! Have a great week!
