Building Readers for the Future!

Reading is truly the foundation for all other areas in education.  There are five main pillars that reading is built upon-phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  For many students, these pillars develop quite naturally.  However, a "crack" in any one of these pillars can weaken the bridge of reading.  As a reading specialist, I strive to strengthen each of these pillars to establish a strong foundation for reading.
You can also contribute to this strong foundation by reading with your child daily. Even just letting them retell stories will help to develop oral language and vocabulary.
I am so grateful to be at Rosehill as the Instructional Reading Specialist.  I enjoy working with students in grades Kindergarten through Fourth by developing a life-time love of reading using grade appropriate research-
based interventions.  I look forward to working with so many fabulous students!
I have a Bachelors degree in English and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Houston.  I also have my Masters degree in Reading Education from the University of St. Thomas.  I am Dyslexia trained through Neuhaus Education Center.
