About the Teacher

Hello parents and students! My name is Lindsay Reed. This will be my 13th year in my teaching profession, as well as, my fifth year at Rosehill Elementary. I have been living in Tomball for the past 9 years and I love working in the same district where I live and being part of such a close-knit community.

I have a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education from Lubbock Christian University and a Master's degree from Sam Houston State University.

I was married in 2008 and moved to the Tomball area. My husband and his parents are both Tomball alumni and always spoken highly about the school district. My husband and I have 2 beautiful sons. My oldest is 6  and attends 1st grade here at Rosehill. My youngest son just turned 3.
I love being outside, working on our home, traveling, reading, and spending time with my family.

I have taught several different grades, but I am in love with 2nd grade. I look forward to coming to school every day and am excited about the upcoming school year!

Materials from Home

Hello, parents! I need your help. I am asking your child to send a few items from home.

We are studying light and shadows in science, so I am asking you to send your child to school with a flashlight. If you do not have one, then do not worry about it. The kids can share.

The second thing I'm asking you to bring is photographs. We will be creating timelines in social studies. The timelines will cover your child's life. In order to do this, I am asking you guys to bring 5 photos of significant events in your child's life along with a brief description of the event. The yellow paper I sent home with your child gives more information on this project.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks and have a great week!

Reminders

Hello, parents! I have a couple of reminders.

First of all, if you have not done so already then please send it your child's money for their Cougar Dash shirt. We are still missing several children's shirt money.

Second of all, our Parent Prep Academy will be holding another meeting on February 27th at 5:00 if you would like to come.

Thanks, everyone! And I'm looking forward to another great week with your child.

Monday

Happy Monday! Here are a few reminders for the week.

We will have our 2nd grade program on Thursday. Performances will be at 2:30 and the after school performance will be at 6:30 pm. (Students will need to be in the music room by 6:15 pm)

We will have our unit test in Math on WEDNESDAY (Feb. 7th). Please make sure to complete the review sheet that was sent home last week with your child.

If you have not sent in money for your child's field day and Cougar dash shirt please do this by Feb. 15th. Our class shirt will be light grey and are $7.

Yearbooks are on sale for $20.00. Deadline to purchase is March 10th.

Dedications are $10.00. Yearbook orders and dedications (called “ads” on the website) can be purchased online at www.balfour.com  and then enter Rosehill Elementary to be directed to the store front.

You may also order the yearbook and dedication with the form sent home in Wednesday folders. These are to be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher. Make checks payable to RES PTO.

Pictures and dedications must be emailed to Lisa Solomon at lisasolomon@tomballisd.net before March 10th.

And finally, I will be at a training for the next 3 days, so there will be a substitute teacher in my room. However, I will still be checking my emails, so if you need to reach me feel free to email.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Homework

Parents, we will be trying out a new format for our kids this school year dealing with homework. I sent home a letter with your child today outlining these details. Please read over the letter to ensure that you are up to date with these changes. Thanks and have a fantastic weekend!

Math Review

Parents, next week we will be taking a math test on addition and subtraction. I sent your child home with a review to work on today. This review is not mandatory. I'm only giving it to you if you want to give your child a little more practice on the skill. Thanks!

Valentine's Party

Parents, there was a mistake on the pink sheet of paper about our Valentine's party. The party will actually be held on Thursday, February 15th. Please plan accordingly! Thanks!

Tomorrow

Parents, we will be having a science test tomorrow over natural resources. We reviewed in class today and will review again tomorrow before the test.

Also, please make sure to turn in your yellow papers on your family and its traditions. Thanks!

Family Heritage

Parents, please help your child fill out the yellow paper about your family and its traditions. I am hoping to begin our family project tomorrow in class. Thanks!

Homework

Hello, parents! Because we were out for a few days last week, our class was unable to get homework copies. There will be no math homework for the week, but I do encourage your child to complete the yellow questionnaire regarding family heritage and traditions. Please have your child return this as soon as possible. Also, please use the week to study your child's spelling words and read for 20 minutes a night. This makes all the difference in the world!

Thank you for understanding and feel free to email me if you have any questions! Have a great weekend!

Website

Hi, parents! I've discovered this amazing new website that is full of math activities for kids. It covers all of the skills we have covered & are planning to cover in 2nd grade. And one of my favorite features is that the site will actually allow the problem to be read to your child. This is great for those kids who need a little help with the reading part of problem solving.

Right now, we are studying 3-digit addition. If you get a chance, have your child visit this website over the weekend for a few minutes. The website is iknowit.com . Here is a direct link to the 3-digit addition games: https://www.iknowit.com/lessons/b-adding-3-digit-numbers-999.html   Thanks and have a great weekend!

Welcome Back!

Hello, parents! I had a few things I wanted to let you know about our very short week.

First of all, Wednesday folders are going home today. Please look through these folders because your child's report card is in them. Please sign both the Wednesday folder and report card and turn it back into me.

Second, our Awards Assembly will still be held tomorrow at 9:20 in the cafeteria. If your child is receiving an award you will be getting a sheet of paper in the Wednesday folder. We'd love to have you there!

Third, we will not be having a spelling test this week. We are going to cancel out this week's words. Next week we will do the words for the correct week. If your child did their math homework they can bring that in to me tomorrow.

If you have any questions please let me know! I'm excited to get back to our routine and continue to keep seeing progress in my kids.

Below are a few reminders and notifications about next week.

School will be closed this Monday in observance of MLK Day.

The students have a family heritage assignment going home today in the Wednesday folder. Please help your child complete the questions and return to class by Monday, January 22nd.

Regular homework assignments and spelling tests will resume next week.

Lastly, we will have our nine weeks award ceremony next Friday. If your child is receiving an award, I will send an email next week with specific information.

Permission

Hello, parents! There is an important letter going home today. One of our students has been homebound all year. We want him to see what has been going on in our room so we have installed a camera with Skype for the classroom. Therefore, I need you to please sign the form and send it back with your child as soon as possible. Thanks so much!

Good afternoon parents,

We have a busy week ahead of us! Below are a few things that you can look for or help your child prepare for:

I am sending home a letter regarding the Christmas party. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Next Wednesday, we will be watching the Polar Express. Please encourage your child to wear appropriate pajamas to school on this day.

Friday, December 22nd will be a half day. Students will be dismissed at 12:50. We will also have our Winter parties this day from 11:30-12:30.

As always, thank you for all of your help and cooperation!

Hello, parents! There are a few things I want to mention that are happening this week.

First of all, we will be taking a math test tomorrow. The test will be covering addition and subtraction with regrouping. We reviewed for the test today in class.

Second of all, we are studying rocks in science. I am asking each child to please bring a rock to school by Wednesday. We will be sorting and graphing them based on their physical properties. Thanks so much!
