Hello Rosehill Cougars! My name is Leticia Piña and I am your new 2nd grade teacher! I have been teaching 2nd grade for a few years now, so I already know how exciting the school year is going to be!

For those of you who don’t know me yet, let me share a little background about myself. I was born and raised in a small town north of here called Navasota. After graduating high school, I attended and graduated Sam Houston State University with a degree in Bilingual Elementary Education. Since then I have taught kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. I started at Navasota ISD and then decided to move to a bigger city. I taught at Spring ISD for a few years and then made another change. After getting married, 6 years ago, I moved to Tomball and started working at Rosehill. My husband and I now have two beautiful kids. Emma is four and going to Pre-K this year. Nicholas is two and keeping us all on our toes daily!

As I mentioned earlier, my teaching degree is specified in Bilingual Education, but I actually made a switch a couple of years ago to teach in English. I feel very comfortable in both languages and have enjoyed both experiences. My main focus is to reach kids and help them grow both socially and academically.

Please feel free to come by and get to know me and our classroom environment. I really do appreciate any feedback and as much communication as possible. And of course, thank you for sharing your child with me. I truly feel that this might be the best year yet!

Happy Wednesday!
I have a few reminders for this week and one very important request :)
- Next Tuesday, February 7th, Tomball ISD will have a Parent Prep Academy from 5 to 7 pm. Please see the flyer in your child's Wednesday folder for more information.
- The Wednesday folder also has a project page that we will need for Social Studies. Your child will need to gather materials and information to create a timeline about his or her life. This will be due on Monday, February 26th.
- Lastly, our class will need a very large banner made for our upcoming Cougar Dash. We will be choosing a name for our team within the next few days, but we need a neat and creative parent to help with a banner. If this seems like something you can help with, please contact me! Your help is greatly appreciated!

This week's reminders

Hello parents,
Here are a few reminders about this week:
- Our Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday at 2:30. If you haven't done so already and are able to, please send your $3 donation as soon as possible. Your child can also bring Valentine cards to pass out to his/her classmates. If you need assistance with this, please feel free to contact me.
- The window to purchase the class shirt ends this Thursday. The shirts will be navy blue and will be used for our annual Cougar Dash and Field Day. If you have not done so yet, please send the sizing information and payment of $7 by Thursday.
- Also, please remember school will be closed on Friday and Monday for a student holiday.
- Lastly, please see my website for information regarding a Parent Prep Academy workshop that will be held at Tomball ISD, February 27th.
Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Hello parents,
Here's a few extra reminders about what's going in our classroom lately.
- Unfortunately, I forgot to send the list of names for the Valentine cards in today's Wednesday folder; I will send them tomorrow; it will be a small pink slip of paper with the names of all of your child's classmates.
- Tomorrow (Thursday) is our 2nd grade music program! They will be performing at 2:30 and at 6:30. If your child is coming in the evening, they should be here by 6:15 tomorrow evening.
- If you have not sent in money for your child's field day and Cougar dash shirt please do this by Feb. 15th. The price of the shirt is $7.
-Our wonderful room mom is also asking for a $3 donation for next week's Valentine's Day party expenses (next Thursday). If you can contribute, please feel free to send the money to me, and I will pass it on to her.
Please contact me if you have any questions about any of these things! Hope to see everyone tomorrow night!

More information

Hi parents,
I apologize for the overload of information, but I failed to mention a few things in the message I sent earlier this week.
- The review for next week's math test did not go home yesterday as I had said, but will be in blue folders today. Please contact me if you have questions over the material.
- A Valentine's Day party letter will be going home today from our room mom today. It has information about the party we will be having on February 15th. If you are able to make a contribution, feel free to send it to school and I will pass it on to her.
- Lastly, here is information regarding the purchasing of the 2017-2018 yearbook:

Yearbooks are on sale for $20.00. Deadline to purchase is March 10th

Dedications are $10.00. Yearbook orders and dedications (called “ads” on the website) can be purchased online at and then enter Rosehill Elementary to be directed to the store front.

You may also order the yearbook and dedication with the form sent home in Wednesday folders. These are to be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher. Make checks payable to RES PTO.

Pictures and dedications must be emailed to Lisa Solomon at before March 10th.

Upcoming Events & Information

Hello parents,
These are a few things to look for in the next week or two:
- Tomorrow's Wednesday folder will have a blue order form for our class shirt. This shirt will be used for the Cougar Dash & Field day (later this year). Please complete the form to include your child's size and send the payment of $7 as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact me.
- Progress reports will also go home in tomorrow's Wednesday folder. Please sign and return.
- We will have our unit test in Math NEXT WEDNESDAY (Feb. 7th), but I am sending the review home tomorrow so the kids can have plenty of time to prepare. Subtraction with regrouping has been a challenging skill, therefore I'd like to give them more than enough study time.
- Next week we will also have our 2nd grade program. Performances will be at 2:30 and the after school performance  will be at 6:30 pm. (Students will need to be in the music room by 6:15 pm)
- Lastly, if you'd like to order from the latest book order form. Please send that order and payment by tomorrow.
Thanks so much for all of your help! Have a wonderful week!

Science Test

Good evening parents,
I just wanted to let you know that the kids will be having a science test tomorrow. They did not take home a review, but we did review today and will do another review activity tomorrow. If you'd like to review briefly with your child, here are a few concepts that will be covered on the test:
- the difference between a natural and man-made resource
- how man-made resources are created using natural resources (such as paper comes from tress or a sweater may come from a cotton plant)
- how we can conserve resources in our everyday life (for example, do not leave water running while brushing your teeth or choose reusable bags instead of paper bags when shopping)
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the test. Thank you for your support and have a wonderful evening.
